
Remove the Engine From Short Term
Storage
Remove the tape from the openings. Remove the warn-
ing tag.
Replace the oil, water, and fuel filters.
Prime the lubricating oil system. Refer to Priming the
Lubricating Oil System (14-02).
Use clean diesel fuel to flush the preservative oil from the
fuel system.
Fill the cooling system (if necessary).
Adjust the injector and valve clearance. Refer to Engine
Assembly (00-02).
Adjust the belt tension. Refer to Engine Assembly (00-02).
Engine Storage - Long Term (14-10)
This procedure describes the proper method to prepare
an engine for long term storage (6 to 24 months).
NOTE: After 24 months in storage, the engine cooling sys-
tem must be flushed with a suitable solvent or a light, hot
oil. This procedure must then be repeated.
Operate the engine at ‘‘High Idle’’ speed until the coolant
temperature indicator reaches:
Temperature: 70°C [160°F]
Shut off the engine.
